Arts and Crafts Dining Chair Set
The design for this Arts and Crafts style dining chair is a riff off a chair featured in Fine Woodworking magazine. I made a few subtle cosmetic changes to the design of the piece and a number of joinery upgrades. The chair is constructed with 28 mortise and tenon joints that create a very strong yet somewhat elegant frame. The faceted ends of the legs and seatback invite your hand to touch them. The Walnut pegs in the top rail provide an accent as well as a mirror of that detail. The curves under the seat and in the back lighten as well as lift the design. The seat itself has a frame of ash and is covered with leather from a local tannery that split and dyed the hide specifically for my use. It has a natural finish and shows some of the character of the hide’s original owner. The seat is nicely padded for long dinners.
These are a set of 4 chairs.
